Beach cleanup in the snow

EUCC-D beach cleanup in Hohe Düne (Germany)

On 21 March 2013 EUCC - The Coastal Union Germany (EUCC-D) initiated a beach cleanup on Hohe Düne in Warnemünde (Germany). 15 employees, colleagues from the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research (IOW) and volunteers braved the strong wind and gathered together marine litter (plastic waste, fishing gear, shoes and cigarette butts) from the iced sand of Hohe Düne. The EUCC-D beach cleanup was one of more than 900 actions, which were worldwide organized from 21 to 24 March under the umbrella of the "Ocean Initiatives". EUCC-D wanted to use the action to achieve a greater public awareness of marine litter, and to call the consumer to a sustainable consumption behavior.
