A day to regenerate the beach of the Marine Protected Area Torre del Cerrano, thanks to the volunteers and to the MARLISCO Project

Saturday May 11th the annual event Initiative Océanes, organized by Surfrider Foundation, took place at the Marine Protected Area Torre del Cerrano, a volunteering initiative aiming at monitoring and cleaning the beaches all around the world that is more than 20 years old by now. Many volunteers, mostly youngsters, and some associations took actively part to the event promoted by Province of Teramo and the Marine Protected Area Torre del Cerrano, zestfully cleaning the strand, being aware to actively contribute to to something important. The Province of Teramo created for the occasion a temporary station in order to illustrate the various initiatives promoted by the MARLISCO, MARine Litter in Europe Seas: Social AwarenesS and CO-Responsability, project, funded by the European Commission FP7.

Another ongoing initiative is the MARLISCO video contest named “The sea sinks, stop litter”: the contest, targeting youngsters between 14 and 16 years old, is based on the production of a video about Marine Litter. The first stage started in Italy few weeks ago: for all project idea submitted within the 10th of June 2013, a technical jury will indicate possible improvements and/or additions in order to improve the quality of the video will will be submitted to the official contest, starting on September 2013.
